New Victor thriller, TRAITOR, coming soon
The first thing to be aware of is that each country has its own publisher and therefore its own schedule, jacket design, sales, marketing and various other individualities. I'm from the UK and it's my UK publisher that usually publishes my novels first as they're the one who I work with most closely. Publishers in other countries then licence the completed novel, translate it into their native language if that isn't English, or tweak the spelling and grammar in the case of North America. Even with the best will in the world this often means that the UK edition is published long before other countries.
Many countries licence two novels at a time, but sometimes just one, so new contracts have to be agreed at least every two years or each and every year. This can further delays the process, especially if the terms of the contracts change and thus need to be discussed or negotiated, which is often the case. Even more paperwork can be required when it comes to international tax laws, and again this adds more time as HMRC (the UK's tax authority) can be very slow in supplying necessary forms and stamps.
Now, when we add in the global pandemic, everything slows down even more.
Beyond that, I've had some major personal and professional upheavals over the last couple of years that would have caused problems with international releases even if everything else I've mentioned above went smoothly.
So, at the present time there are only a handful of countries that have published my most recent books. Whilst it is possible to order the physical books from the UK or obtain them on a site that directly lists them, the ebook and audiobook are subject to territorial licensing (my UK publisher does not have the rights to sell them in most countries beyond UK, IE, AS & NZ) and therefore cannot legally be obtained if you're not in one of those territories.
At some point the issues behind the scenes will be resolved and A Quiet Man, as well as Traitor, will be available in all formats in the US & CA, but sadly I don't have a publication date I can share at this time. When I do, I will send out a newsletter and update my web site and social media accounts to make sure my readers in North America are aware that Victor is (finally) back.
And for those who listen to audiobooks, Rob Shapiro will most certainly be narrating.
